Pier Piras is a musician, composer and producer born in Sassari in 1989, but his bass guitar speaks a language that crosses genres, boundaries and conventions.
His musical journey begins with White Sunset, a band that introduced him to the independent scene with awards such as FAWI 2009 and recognition as Best Bassist from Gibson Italy. From there begins a journey studded with collaborations as a session player and producer alongside artists from the regional and national scene, in the studio and on stage.
In parallel, he composes soundtracks for short films, animations and audiovisual projects, demonstrating a compositional sensibility that goes far beyond the role of mere instrumentalist.
After studying music in Milan, he chose to return to Sardinia to devote himself fully to his artistic vision, founding the Pier Piras Trio and carefully curating his online presence to the point of being noticed by leading portals such as BassTheWorld and global bassist communities, appearing in the channels of names such as Charles Berthoud and Davie504.
In 2020, he reached the finals of the prestigious “Bassist of The Year” competition, organized by Bass Player Magazine and Guitar World, ranking among the top five in the world.
In 2022 he releases his first solo album, “A Wizard’s Perspective,” where the electric bass emancipates itself from its rhythmic role and becomes a narrative protagonist. The sounds mix jazz, folklore and cinematic suggestions, tracing the contours of a personal and evolving style.
In 2025 comes “Aeolus,” his second album: a work entirely dedicated to the acoustic bass, an instrument rarely explored as a soloist. The album, produced by Roble Records and recorded at Roble Factory, is the result of a year and a half of sound research and experimentation. Here, each composition is an intimate rite, where virtuosic technique and soul merge into a single performative gesture.
Thus was also born a live performance where the acoustic bass takes on the role of a messenger, just like the mythological Aeolus, guardian of the winds. With natural touch and expressive depth, Pier Piras transforms each performance into an experience that goes beyond sound, taking the audience into a territory suspended between melody, rhythm and breath.
